Ian works at the intersection of creativity, social impact, and transformation through technology, focusing on work that creates meaningful change. With a passion for organizational transformation and experience overseeing digital projects, Ian is dedicated to enabling non-profits and social enterprises to embrace technology that increases their impact and fulfills their critical mission.
As co-founder of pioneering stock photography startup iStock, Ian designed several iterations of the platform. He went on to co-found Structured Abstraction, a digital firm firmly rooted in innovation that focuses on transformational change for social impact ventures, applying start-up energy and creative problem-solving to help organizations using continuous improvement and development. Beyond his technology work, he brings 20+ years of arts and culture management experience as founder of Juno Award-winning record label Flemish Eye, which has launched many Canadian artists' careers.
With a background in managing complex product design and UX projects and a respect for the non-profit sector established through various board positions, Ian’s work is grounded in the belief that thoughtful, empathetic design can support and enable change within complex systems.
